Review
“Fareed Armaly’s project subverts the entire premise of a 'media window' in Cashflow and Standard. The artist simply had the pages made available to him sold to advertisers—thus refusing to anchor artistic work to a particular site—and instead demanded space within the editorial sections of both media outlets. His work most clearly reveals the tactical dimension that connects all interventions in Cashflow and Standard, and which may well represent the most significant contribution toward a redefinition of artistic practice.
Rather than lamenting 'commercialization' and 'manipulation', the artists accept both—as the structural conditions of contemporary art production. Accordingly, they do not define their own approach as a product, but as a practice: thus determining art as a social use of media.”
