“Van rotzooi naar kunst.”

Review

“It was Fareed Armaly who called Lou Reed in 1999 and asked about Metal Machine Music as a sound installation. For the American artist, who at the time was artistic director of the Künstlerhaus in Stuttgart, ‘it was a very important project. It fit in with my new house philosophy,’ says Armaly. ‘We wanted to show how something can come to life from an archive and be able to provoke new productions. A record with such a mythical production history also easily lent itself to a larger discussion.’ . . . Armaly remembers his encounter with the rock star very well. ‘[Reed] was very excited about the idea of reintroducing the album. He even sent me a new copy of the master recording.’”
